“Experience Nature Under the Moon Light”
Sunset & Night Kayaking. Semi-Athletic
The Best of the NE
Activity Code: “FMKA” Note: That as of April, 2007 “No Swimming” is permitted in Laguna Grande under Regalement 7241 of the Department of Natural Resources. All hold different nightly total for guest capacity, with this said the area is saturated, it would be advised that if your vacation plans allow it is best to book Monday through Thursday as traffic in the area is less. This activity is the perfect nature adventure under a full moon, and if your stay in Puerto Rico happens to fall during the full moon stage you don’t have to miss out on our “Night Kayaking Tours”! This tour was developed as an alternative to the Bioluminescent Bay Kayak Adventure during the full moon cycle as the reflection of the moonlight on the surface of the lagoon makes it difficult to see the organism.

But that same moonlight exposes mangrove forests, eight ecosystems, bird life, second oldest lighthouse in Puerto Rico, iguanas and much more of natures secrets that are normally overlooked on the darkest nights!

Crowds are not your thing? Taking this moonlight kayak tour will allow you to enjoy a peaceful kayak adventure into Laguna Grande with less of the “Crowds” as most come only to see the Bioluminescent organism! Remember that all our tours are fully guided and average 3 hours start to finish once at the tour site. Our guides are top of the line and although the “Full Moon Eco Kayak Adventure” holds a focus on nature there are places under the mangrove canopy that under the right conditions can reveal “Dinoflagellate!

This tour is available from half-full through third day full moon cycle and has two time frames available 5:15 p.m. & 7:15 p.m.

Tour includes Kayaks, lifejackets, refreshments and two to three guides depending on group size. Don’t let your day end when the sun goes down, we offer relaxing kayak tours at sunset that lead to the fascinating lagoon at Las Cabezas de San Juan reserves Laguna Grande. Under the blanket of the night sky and the historical lighthouse of Fajardo, you can enjoy views of the only U.S. Tropical Rainforest that stands majestically in the background! The activity will start at sunset in the small fishing village of Las Croabas here you will meet the friendly staff of Enchanted Island Eco Tours Kayak Adventure team! They will be set-up with all need gear which will include, Double kayaks, Backrest, Paddles with leashes, PFD’s (Lifejackets) and two to three Guide Kayaks with all need safety equipment, lights and refreshments. The activity will start with Botanical insect repellant, waiver orientation and signing, lifejacket and light disbursement, then the lead guide will give each group a complete kayak 101 safety training, which will cover all aspects of the tour and the operation of their kayaks.

At this point our tour will start, your group will be lead across a small fisherman’s cove to the entrance of Las Cabezas de San Juan Reserve. Here you will enter a mystical channel that leads to a peaceful place where the mangroves create natural tunnels and the sights and sounds of nature surround you. Along this 30-minute paddle your lead Guide will be stopping to give commentary on the following points of interest,

*Mangrove forest and the different species.
*Bird life that inhabits the area.
*Aquatic marine life that use the lagoon as and estuary.
*Bioluminescent organisms and how they are affected during full moon cycle.
*Information on reptiles such as Tree Iguanas.
*Rainforest and its role for the lagoon.
*Lighthouse History

At this point we will enter the lagoon called Laguna Grande, (large Lagoon) here we will paddle along the edge of the mangrove forest as we watch and listen for movement in the mangrove trees, as we look for the beautiful Great White egret, brown pelican, 35 species of warblers, great blue heron, yellow crowned night heron, tree iguanas all the while hoping to catch a glimpse of a shooting star.

This will lead the group to a break point were beautiful views of the Rainforest and the lighthouse of Fajardo accompany interpretation of the natural area along with good conversations. At this point we will be about 1 hour into our tour and under a blanket of stars we will start our return to the departure site, this will take about 30 minutes. Snacks and refreshments are provided at the end of the tour!

Tour duration is 1:45 – 2:00 hours in water with 45 minutes of pre-bus and waiver orientation - pre-ride (kayak – 101) safety training and fifteen minutes once back on shore for snacks, cold water and comment sheets for a total of 3 hours.)
